PREVIEW OF THE AREA COMMITTEE MEETING

July 2008

We had a fairly light agenda for the June Area Committee Meeting (ACM).  We had one item of Old Business to discuss and heard sharing on two great Discussion Topics.

We finished discussion on the following item of business.  The ACM was ready to vote and unanimously approved this motion.

  • “That CNCA provide financial support, not to exceed $750, for the 3rd Annual Bridging the Gap Forum to be held later this year.”  - Bridging the Gap Committee. (presented April 2008)

The ACM decided they were finished sharing on the following topic.   With the end of the panel approaching, I hope you will continue talking about service rotation in your Districts.

  • Do we lose continuity because of service rotation?  Is this something we lose with our elected/appointed leaders?

We heard great sharing on the following topic.  This topic will remain on the agenda for the July ACM.

  • Are housekeeping motions to report expenditures which have been previously approved and included in the budget necessary and useful or does this practice confuse our process?

At the July ACM, we will open discussion on the recommendation made by the Ad-Hoc committee on our Registrar software.

As we approach the end of the panel, we will continue hearing Area Officer job descriptions prior to the DCM Sharing Session. The next position we will hear about is the Area Chair.

The Summer Assembly will be held on August 9th at the Pacelli Event Center in Daly City, hosted by District 05 – San Mateo.  A flyer for the Assembly is available on the Area website at www.cnca06.org under Calendar of Events.

We will have our regular Assembly Business Meeting in the morning and in the afternoon will have two workshop sessions and hear presentations on 3 topics in each session.  That’s a total of 6 workshops.  By Area motion, all of the workshops will have Spanish and/or English Interpretation.  One of the workshops will be on next years General Service Conference Theme, “Our Commitment to Carry AA’s Message – Enthusiasm and Gratitude in Action.”

At the Assembly Business Meeting we will begin discussion on the following new item of business.

  • “That in future versions of the Spanish language edition of the Service Manual, page S1, final paragraph, be reverted back to use the exact language in the same paragraph in the ‘97 - ‘98 edition.”  - District 40, Santa Clara South (presented 2008 Post Conference Assembly)

We will continue discussion on the following item of old business.

  • “In the pamphlet, “Self-Support:  Where Money and Spirituality Mix”, pg. 9, an addition be included stating:  “for General Service Office address see page 13”, as an addendum to the answer to the question, “Can people leave money to A.A. in their wills?” - District 03 – Santa Cruz (presented 2008 Pre-Conference Assembly)

The Area Officers would like to thank everyone who submitted suggestions for workshop topics.  We received over 30 ideas. Narrowing down this list to only 5 is not an easy task, but the Area Officers managed.  We will hear presentations, followed by discussion, on the following topics at the Summer Assembly.

Session One:

  • “Our Commitment to Carry AA’s Message – Enthusiasm and Gratitude in Action.”
  • Self-Support: Tradition Seven vs. Literature Sales
  • Is AA a religion?

Session Two:

  • The possibility of CNCA becoming two Areas – Is it time?  Are we too big?
  • Presenting the Conference Report to our groups
  • Available / Not Available:  When is it my responsibility to say NO?

If you haven’t done so already, please mark your calendar and make your reservations for the Summer Assembly on August 9th at the Pacelli Event Center in Daly City.

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to be of service.
