CNCA PUBLIC INFORMATION
COOPERATION WITH THE PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
Public Information (PI) committees in Alcoholics Anonymous are responsible for carrying the message of recovery to the still suffering alcoholic by informing the general public about the A.A. program. PI carries the message by getting in touch with the media, schools, industry and other organizations which can report on the nature and purpose of A.A. and what it can do for alcoholics.
Similarly, Cooperation with the Professional Community (CPC) committees provide information about AA to those who have contact with alcoholics through their respective professions. Among these are religious organizations (clergy and staff), judiciary (parole officers, judges, lawyers, police, and probation departments), the medical profession (doctors, nurses, and other health professionals), education (teachers, professional schools) and human resource professionals.
PI and CPC committees exist at both Area and District levels. The primary goal of the CNCA PI/CPC committee is to support development and growth of the local committees at the district and Intergroup level where the real footwork is done. A secondary responsibility is to provide support by staffing booths at professional conferences held in and around the Area. The breadth of services offered by PI and CPC can be quite extensive! Local committees may place AA literature in public libraries, train and provide speakers for schools, colleges and DUI classes, and place AA literature racks at schools, libraries, police stations, and doctor offices just to name a few We also work with the media to inform newspapers and TV/radio stations about AA's tradition of anonymity and also to distribute Public Service Announcements produced by the AA General Service Office.
